I want to share an email I received today. This is from one of my former students. I became very close to his family when I taught in Southlake. Brian stayed with them during his radiation treatments and their home was an open door to us over the past 3 years. Luke and his sister were even in our wedding. Their entire family has been there with us through our journey and supported us with their love and prayers! They became so much for than friends.... They became our family! I love you Millican family!
Friends and Family,
In December, our family lost a great friend, Brian Lair, to brain cancer. He had just celebrated his marriage to Shea, my 3rd grade teacher, over Labor Day weekend and didn’t deserve to pass away so soon. He had an amazing spirit about life and his illness!
Since he died, I have learned that one out of three women and one out of two men will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. That means all of us have either had cancer or known someone who has been diagnosed with cancer.
Tomorrow, I will get to celebrate my 13th birthday. That’s why this year I’m donating my upcoming birthday on March 25th to the American Cancer Society - because it is the largest not-for-profit cancer research contributor in American. Instead of getting presents this year, I’m asking people to donate in order to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays.
I plan to donate $1 for every person that helps me donate. Please join me by making a donation of any amount and leave a message with your story. You can find my link on www.relayforlife.org/southlaketx. Click on donate, donate to a participant, then search for a participant (Luke Millican). You can also choose to purchase a luminaria (used during the 10pm ceremony) in honor of a survivor or loved one lost.
Together we can raise funds for the American Cancer Society and help people stay well, get well, fund cures and fight back. We all know someone who is affected by cancer. Let’s do it for them, and let’s do it for my friend, Brian. If you know of someone that might want to join this cause, feel free to pass along.
Thanks for your help!
Luke Millican
I am amazed by Luke's unselfishness at such a young age! A 13th birthday is a pretty big deal. Most kids are asking and expecting the newest and coolest gift. Not luke.... He just want to raise money for people like Brian. What an amazing young man!
Happy Birthday Luke!! I am so proud of you Luke, and I know that Brian is looking down on us and he is grinning from ear to ear because he is also so proud of you!
Peace and love
Shea
